On the 'Start' menu, click 'Run'. In the 'Open' box, type 'msiexec /regserver', and then press ENTER. If this does not help the I would suggest to install the Windows Installer Cleanup utility and run that to remove the leftover Java installer files that may be causing issues with your current installation. I sure would like to be able to find a download link for 'Windows Installer 4.5 for 64 bit windows 7'. I have nearly exhausted every effort to find one. I keep getting install crashes when I try and install my own gaming 'retail' software from DVD. I just re-installed Windows 7 a couple of weeks ago, and now I wish I had just formatted the whole hard drive and installed Windows XP. Seems like it's the only 'stable' version of Windows that's still out there from Microsoft. There are way too many instances of not having the administrative privileges, or UAC bugging you to pieces all the time. And upgrading to Windows 8?
Tried that one too, and I hate it more than all of them combined. What's that old saying?

Have you looked into 'compatibility Mode'? What is program compatibility? Program compatibility is a mode in Windows that lets you run programs written for earlier versions of Windows.
Most programs written for Windows Vista also work in Windows 7, but some older programs might run poorly or not run at all. Compatibility mode - Make older programs run in this version of Windows: Windows 7 Compatibility Center See if your software or hardware is listed and what options you have Learn to Use Windows 7's Compatibility Mode with Older Apps Using Windows 7 or Vista Compatibility Mode Also: J W Stuart: Never be afraid to ask. This forum has some of the best people in the world available to help. You may be misunderstanding the 'compatibility' requirements of your software.
Most software intended to run on 32-bit Windows 7 systems runs perfectly well on 64-bit Windows 7 systems. In fact, if you have Windows 7 64-bit, you'll see two directories for programs: C: Program Files and C: Program Files (x86). I have far more programs in C: Program Files (x86) than in the 64-bit program directory. If you're trying to decide what computer and OS to get, I strongly suggest that you get a 64-bit-capable computer and install a 64-bit operating system. If you have specific questions about some '32-bit software,' please identify it and perhaps someone here can assist.

' WoW64 ( Windows 32-bit on Windows 64-bit) is a subsystem of the Windows operating system capable of running 32-bit applications and is included on all 64-bit versions of Windows—including Windows XP Professional x64 Edition, IA-64 and x64 versions of Windows Server 2003, as well as 64-bit versions of Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1.
In Windows Server 2008 R2 Server Core, it is an optional component. WoW64 is designed to take care of many of the differences between 32-bit Windows and 64-bit Windows, particularly involving structural changes to Windows itself. Take time to let us know if the suggestion worked.or not. I have a similar issue. I am trying to use a series of programs, some are 32-bit (like Java) and others are 64-bit (like ActivClient). It seems that when interfacing with a program on another site that's running straight 32-bit programs, the meshing between the 32-bit Java and 64-bit ActivClient get messed up.
So, it seems that I will be forced to run all my apps in 32-bit mode, but when I try to install the 32-bit ActivClient on my 64-bit system, it errors out. One answer would be to re-install my OS in 32-bit mode, so that all future instantiations of applications will be 32-bit. Is there a way to set up a 32-bit version of my current OS? As in, make my PC dual-boot into either a 32-bit or 64-bit version of the OS, and therefore only running those versions? Thanks for the help!
In general, there are no 'compatibility issues' between '32-bit software' and '64-bit software.' That said, security programs such as ActivClient often 'don't play by the rules' and as a result may run into peculiar issues. You should seek assistance from the IT department/support staff at the location that provides ActivClient. Perhaps this ActivClient FAQ may be of use to you: Why am I receiving an IDCO error message regarding a compatibility conflict that exists between my 32-bit and 64-bit desktop installations? As more users upgrade their Operating System (OS) to 64-bit compatibility, issues may arise if you use bit versions of ActivClient, Internet Explorer (IE), and Java Runtime Environment (JRE) that are not the same. See Verifying Bit Versions of IE, JRE, and ActivClient to ensure that all are set to the same bit (i.e., ActivClient 32-bit, JRE 32-bit, and IE 32-bit; OR ActivClient 64-bit, JRE 64-bit, and IE 64-bit).
Any inconsistency among those three components means that you will not be able to access all RSS CAC enabled functions. Note that even for 64-bit versions of Windows 7, you may well be using 32-bit versions of Internet Explorer and Java.
To make matters even more confusing, if you have IE 11, it is no longer as simple as having a 32-bit version and a 64-bit version. IE 11 starts by opening a 64-bit 'manager process' and then either 32-bit or 64-bit tab processes, depending on web site content.
